Food Addiction

Food addiction is treatable. About 80% of compulsive over eaters who seek professional help either recover completely or reduce their symptoms dramatically.

Compulsive overeating is a behavioral pattern resulting from emotional conflicts that need to be resolved in order to have a healthy relationship with food.

Like other eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia, it is a serious problem and can cause death. However, you can overcome compulsive overeating with psychotherapy, medical and nutritional counseling.

Signs of Compulsive Overeating

*Binge eating, or eating uncontrollably when not physically hungry

*Eating faster than normal

* Eating alone to avoid shame or embarrassment

*Feeling guilty for overeating

* Preoccupation with body weight

* Depression or mood swings

*Awareness that eating patterns are abnormal

*History of weight fluctuations

*Social avoidance because of shame or embarrassment about weight

*History of many different unsuccessful diets

*Eating little in public, but maintaining a high body weight
