LGBTQ Concerns
LGBTQ concerns are as diverse as the queer community. The mental health needs of queer individuals and couples require awareness of and sensitivity to the diversity of cultural norms and experiences within their extended community.
Queer relationships are challenged with the task of thriving in a heterosexist culture. LGBTQ individuals are challenged with the task of claiming their place with pride and self-esteem.
Those who are choosing to come out are on a brave life-long journey. Old relationships may dissolve while new ones take shape. Loneliness, fear, shame and internalized homophobia can play a role in depression, anxiety, and substance abuse among other mental health concerns.
I am sensitive to the challenges LGBTQ individuals and couples may struggle with and I strive to provide caring, compassionate guidance.
