EMDR Therapy Santa Cruz

EMDR Therapy Santa Cruz style can be quite a different animal than a typical counseling session. When I say Santa Cruz style, I am referring to the many special places to visit after your session that will enhance your ability to integrate the material that will inevitably arise from the work.

As for the practice of EMDR proper, the only style recommended is a commitment to the official 8 Phase Protocol. In fact, a great test of merit for any potential therapist would be an affirmation that he or she does indeed stick to the protocol. I encourage you to inquire as much when you are looking for someone to begin working with.

EMDR is a depth-oriented and brief therapeutic modality. It works directly and efficiently on cognitive and emotional material that is held in fragments and threads needing integration. Effective EMDR therapy will unlock this material and assist your psyche and body in reprocessing the information as your own intrinsic and adaptive healing process takes over.

Clients generally experience an expansion in their ability to cope with and confront episodic memories. Problem solving, letting go, greater self-acceptance; all things adaptive rather than resistant and dysfunctional are enhanced by the combination of applied bi-lateral stimulation in the context of the emdr protocol.

After your session, I recommend taking a hike in Arana Gulch or visiting 26 sq mile Redwood Forest of Nisene Marks. Seabright Beach or Capitola Village are also nearby. These are beautiful places where you can get some quiet time and allow yourself to reflect on the most salient aspects of your session. It's even better if you bring a journal and write down your reflections.
