For individuals seeking outpatient treatment for binge eating problems or bulimia, Turning Point Psychotherapy offers a 16 week recovery program.

Using the most advanced clinical research and application clients will learn to:

  • Overcome the urge to binge
  • Establish stable, healthy eating habits
  • Get control of eating behavior
  • Reduce the risk of relapse

With your commitment to this highly structured program, you may replace dysfunctional thinking and behavior with a skillful approach to health based eating. This is a hands on program and you can expect to benefit from the use of  textbooks and homework throughout the course of treatment. Based On Science

If you are suffering with binge eating, chances are you have become perplexed and discouraged, torn by conflicting information and options. Rather than gaining an understanding of the mechanisms that keep an eating disorder in place,  you may have resigned yourself to living with a problem that increasingly erodes your quality of life.

This program is organized to address two basic goals: To present the most current scientifically based facts about what creates and maintains a binge eating problem. Secondly,  use the most well researched and tested clinical applications for effective treatment.

Santa Cruz Counseling for Co-Dependency

What Is Co-Dependency?

It is a paradigm.

It is an informal diagnosis.

It is a means of coping.

Co-dependency is like being Ski Patrol on a crowded mountain without knowing how to ski: you're there to rescue people, the pressure is on, you don't know what you're doing and you're not going to admit it.

Co-dependency is keeping boundaries up when they needs to come down and letting them crumble when they need to be true.

How do you know when which way is best: to mend or, to let go? With honest reflection, if your days are colored by anxiety, depression, fear, avoidance, denial, anger, addiction, and the like, the simple fact is that if you keep doing what you've been doing you'll keep getting what you've been getting.

For a deeper understanding of the co-dependency paradigm, take theco-dependency self test.  If you're ready for change, I'm here to help.Santa Cruz counseling for co-dependency is available in the office or online via skype.

There are many techniques that can be usede to help you overcome co-dependent thinking and behavior. Cognitive behavior therapy, EMDR, even hypnotherapy are all effective ways to start making the changes you need now. Have you reached your turningp point?

Treat Severe Anxiety

Severe problems do not always require severity in response. When it comes to anxiety, subtle approaches can produce better results than a hammer or a "potent" drug. But, one positive correlation is undeniable: with respect to the spectrum of anxiety disorders, the longer the problem goes untreated, the more severe and disruptive it's likely to get.

Overcome Severe Anxiety

Self-medicating to cope with anxiety is inadvisable. Using alcohol and other drugs to numb the pain will only make matters worse. Under medication, the dysfunctional cognitive processes that create the anxiety continue to roll along unimpeded. Drinking, smoking and taking pills to cope amounts to numbing your hand with nova cane so you can hold it over a slow burning flame.

According to scientific research, internet based, therapist-delivered cognitive behavior therapy is an effective treatment for anxiety. The more frequent the therapy, the more immediately the client responds. When I treat clients with severe anxiety, I recommend "front loading": start off with a minimum of two to three 80 minute sessions a week for the first three weeks.

By the fourth week it's common to decrease the frequency and duration of sessions: one to two times weekly for the next month for 50 minutes. From here, clients more easily maintain improvements.

By the third month, they have learned and implemented the skills necessary to cope with and to prevent the onset of future anxiety. They have managed to:

Integrate psychotherapeutic interventions fromCBT and EMDR in adaptive cognitive processes outside of session.

  • Develop guided relaxation and visualization techniques to help decrease levels of physical discomfort
  • Increase daily social and work related activities.
  • Understand and no longer need any possible "secondary gain" associated with the anxiety, i.e., subconscious benefits.
  • Identify positive alternative views of reality that counter the validity of anxiety producing perspectives.
  • Identify an anxiety reduction method that has been effective in the past and increase the frequency of its use.

Despite it's proven effectiveness in treating severe anxiety, CBT can be difficult to access. Although CBT software programs are available online, the research indicates that working with a therapist, real-time using a web cam is the best way to go.

Most important to remember about anxiety: no matter how severe it is, it can be healed. You CAN overcome your anxiety. I encourage you to browse this site for more in-depth information on how to make psychotherapy work for you.
